Unlocking Advisory Board Value

Reflect & Revise: Enhancing Your Advisory Board in 5 Minutes

This episode of Brainy Bunch TV is about about getting the most out of your advisory board. If you are leading change, you likely have a board of advisors by your side. Are you making the most out of this valuable resource? Let’s take a moment to reflect with three simple questions.

You will find that it is not just about having the right people at the table; it is about creating an environment where their voices can truly be heard and valued.

First off, take a good look at your advisory board. How diverse is it really? Are all the necessary perspectives and stakeholders represented? Maybe there is someone crucial missing from the table. It is worth pausing to consider and ensure everyone who should be there is.

Next, think about how often you are tapping into this wealth of knowledge. It is tempting to get caught up in the whirlwind of progress reports and project updates, sharing progress to keep everyone on board, but don’t forget the primary purpose of your advisory board: to provide guidance and expertise. Take a step back and recall the last two meetings you had. How much time are you really spending on seeking advice versus just sharing information? There might be room for a shift in focus that could yield invaluable insights.

Atmosphere matters. Are your meetings strictly politics and business, or do you make room for a bit of levity? Creating a relaxed atmosphere isn’t just about having a good time; it is about fostering creativity, building rapport, and ultimately, getting the best out of your advisors. Consider sprinkling in some humor, allowing for moments of connection beyond the agenda items. After all, a little joy can go a long way in keeping your advisors engaged and invested.

By taking the time to reflect on these three questions, you can unlock the full potential of your advisory board. If you need further guidance, we are here to help.
